Vacation and Vodka (a funny side note) August 2, 2008

Well, we’re outta here for a week. Off to get sunburned. I thought I’d leave you with a funny Vodka-as-deodorant update instead of August’s Menu.

So I bought a little squeeze bottle for my Vodkarant (that’s it’s new name). It works well. My brain apparently does not. There seems to be a strong association between liquid on a cotton ball and my face because I’ve officially wiped vodka all over it twice now. I promise to share photos if something terribly hideous or remarkably wonderful happens.

See you in a week!

Bri, seriously, smell! July 9, 2008

I’m learning to accept the natural state of things–as in, the natural state of my entire body is sweaty. This is a lovely souvenir I found in my suitcase when I returned from the Land of Pregnancy.

What I refuse to accept is the not so good earthy smell that accompanies it (I’m just not there yet hippie mamas)

So I began this mission to find a natural deodorant that actually works. Everyone I asked only felt so-so about whatever it was that they were using, and Brian, the champion of all my causes, was not only getting tired of hearing about B.O., he was becoming increasingly less enthusiastic about all the $6.00 once-used products getting tossed. I believe the staff at Mother’s and Henry’s actually had a shelf for me labeled “Here are the ones you haven’t tried yet”.

Then I got a call from Sarah that changed my life.

Her Seattle based doctor told her that his sure fire cure for B.O. (that is completely aluminum free) is, are you ready, okay the photo probably gave it away…

And I have been walking around with my arms in the air ever since.

Get the highest proof Vodka you can find, for me it was 80. It’s totally odorless. I apply it with a cottonball but a container with a rollerball would be ideal, especially if you have kids around or don’t want to explain to people why you have alcohol in your medicine cabinet. Ideally, apply it when you are clean and your armpits are bacteria-free. Before I bought the Vodka I used rubbing alcohol which worked even better (I only had to apply it every two days). However, I believe the isopropyl is not that good for you so stick with the Vodka.

If you try it, let me know if what you think.

Just added–Noelle found this sweet post for homemade deodorant over at Angry Chicken. So cool!
